International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) Nigeria

International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), is an international non-profit research-for-deveolopment (R4D) organization created in 1967, governed by a Board of Trustees, and supported primarily by the Consultative Group of International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). Our R4D is anchored on the development needs of sub-Saharan Africa. We develop agricultural solutions with our partners to tackle hunger and poverty by reducing producer and consumer risks, enhancing crop quality and productivity, and generating wealth from agriculture.
We have more than 100 internationally recruited scientists fromabout 35 countries and 900 nationally recruited staff based in various stations across Africa.

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture seeks suitable Nigerian Nationals for the following position at the Institute's Headquarters, Ibadan.

Job Title: Secretary (2-year renewable Contract)

Duties:
Successful candidate will among other things:

Manage YIIFSWA Project Secretariat, understake typing of correspondence, reports, manuscripts, handling telephone, fax, e-mail, mail, photocopying, etc.
Comply with IITA's standard operational procedures in respect of administration and finance for all YIIFSWA Project activities.
Organise, maintain and reqularly update the administrative and finance filing systems including correspondences (both electronic and hard copies).
Assist the YIIFSWA Project Management Team in all matters relating to organisation of meetings and workshops.
Arrange travel logistics for Project Management Team and visitors
Liaise with respective IITA Units for procurement of supplies, communication, accounting and finance matters.
Organise and supervise cash payments (Petty cash) as well as casual labour if any Undertake any other administrative and finance related tasks assigned by the Management Team.

Qualification and Experience

National Diploma in Secretarial Studies or equivalent.
Minimum of 5 years Secretariat
Management experience in a reputable organization.

The ideal candidate must

Have good verbal and written communication skills.
Be computer literate and proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite.
Demonstrate the ability to work in a cross cultural setting.
Working knowledge of French is an advantage.

RESEARCH TECHNICIANS – 2 positions, 2 year renewable contract
DUTIES:
Successful candidates will among other things perform the following:
Compile list of nutrient enriched hybrids and inbred lines and take stock of seeds available in the cold store.
Participate in the preparation, packaging and dispatch of local, regional and international trials involving nutrient enriched varieties, hybrids and inbred lines.
Arrange nutrient enriched breeding materials in the cold stores in good order to facilitate easy retrieval during seed preparation.
Prepare requested seeds of nutrient enriched parental lines of hybrid, synthetics and other genetic materials for shipment to partners, research institutions and advanced research laboratories.
Supervise casual labor during seed preparation, planting, pollination and harvesting.
Ensure protection of seed production fields and making sure they are free from weeds.
Perform any other duties assigned by the Senior research Technician, Research Associate and the Scientist.

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum of ND in Agriculture and at least four years working experience in similar research areas.
The ideal candidate must demonstrate the ability to work independently and should be able to work extra hours.

JOB TITLE: SECRETARY II (2-YEAR RENEWABLE CONTRACT)

DUTIES
Successful candidate will among other things:
• Maintain project filling system, both paper and electronic versions from proposal to closing state
• Responsible for correspondence, mail, photocopying, binding and other paperwork
• Scanning and forwarding new donor and partner agreements, MoUs and amendments
• Responsible for sending of cheques to partners The ideal candidate who are paid by cheque
• Preparing of Travel Authorization and Cash Advance/Expense Claims for travel arrangement for CGO staff
• Preparing Oracle requests for internal purchases and Purchases Order for office stationery supplies
• Such other duties, properly assigned, as may be occasioned by the exigencies of the service.

QUALIFICATION
• Bsc/HND or BSc/HND or equivalent in a related discipline. Minimum of 5 years secretarial experience in a reputable organization.
• The ideal candidate will be neat committed, well organized and be a good team player.
• He/she must be highly proficient in the use of computer and possess good typing skills.
